About
Mauricio Zambrano-Bigiarini is a Civil Engineer and PhD in Environmental Engineering, with more than 20 years of experience in water resources, including a postdoc position at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Community focused on the calibration of hydrological models for early warning of floods at a pan-European scale.
I’m currently working as a an associate professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences of the Universidad de La Frontera, Temuco, Chile, and lead and participates in several research projects related to the evaluation of the impacts of global change on the hydrological response of catchments.
Since March 2021, I’m working at the Assessment Group of Earth Sciences (Grupo de Evaluación de Ciencias de la Tierra) of the Chilean Science Foundation (ANID).
Current research interests
- Use of gridded data (e.g., P, ET, SM) for drought monitoring and hydrological modeling at various spatial and temporal scales.
- Analysis of extreme precipitation events and the catchment’s response to such events.
- Global optimization and sensitivity analysis of hydrological models
- Development of R packages for management and analysis of hydrometeorological data
